Cam Newton kept everybody believing

The Carolina Panthers’ defense picked the worst of days to have arguably their worst collective display of the season. Phil Snow’s group has been red-hot almost from start to finish in 2021, but their inability to stop Washington’s rushing attack, generate significant pressure, keep Taylor Heinicke in check, or cover the likes of Terry McLaurin effectively proved to be their downfall.

Even when all hope seemed lost and nothing was being generated on either side of the football, the fanbase and the players remained engaged. Something that cannot be said for similar games that ended up in this manner during the current campaign.

There’s only one reason for this.

Cam Newton.

Even when the Panthers looked down and out at one stage – low on any sort of morale – having Newton under center means they can never be counted out. This didn’t end up coming with a fairytale ending on the final drive, but that won’t stop anybody from believing in the signal-caller they’ve adored from the moment he arrived in Carolina a decade ago.

It’s a mindset thing.

Newton has completely shifted the needle in a short space of time with supporters, coaching staff, and the players, who’ll now know they have a quarterback and veteran leader who’s going to hold them accountable.

If that isn’t encouraging or has a positive effect, then the Panthers might not be the right organization for some.
