In recognition of Thanksgiving, which Carolina Panthers players have emerged as the biggest turkeys during the 2021 season?

The Carolina Panthers and its loyal fanbase have gone through plenty of ups and downs this season. At their best, the team looks like something special could be on the immediate horizon and at their worst, they’ve looked like a franchise destined for another high-end draft pick.

It remains to be seen just how impactful their Week 11 loss at home to the Washington Football Team eventually has on Carolina’s playoff aspirations. But it’s refreshing to see the Panthers playing meaningful games at this time of the campaign after two years or more of languishing in mediocrity.

We’ll find out plenty about the Panthers in the coming weeks before and after their bye. And as the old saying goes, the NFL season does not truly start until after Thanksgiving.

Taking on a topical holiday theme, we picked out the five biggest turkeys from Carolina’s 2021 season so far.

There was a lot to like about Joseph Charlton’s production during his rookie season. Unfortunately for the South Carolina product, his sophomore campaign didn’t go nearly as well.

Charlton looks indecisive with his kicks and wasn’t getting anywhere near the yardage the Panthers enjoyed from the player in Year 1 of his professional career. It was a blessing in disguise when he went to the reserve/injured list, which gave Lachlan Edwards an opportunity to make the position his own.

It’s safe to say Edwards has done this at least until the end of the season. Charlton was waived upon returning to fitness and is still looking for a new home.

A major disappointment for a player that showed plenty of promise in 2021.
