Which free agents still on the market could the Carolina Panthers look to acquire in the wake of Christian McCaffrey’s season-ending injury?

Not for the first time over the last two seasons, the Carolina Panthers must plan for life without Christian McCaffrey. The All-Pro running back was placed on the reserve/injured list following an ankle problem suffered in Week 12 at the Miami Dolphins, meaning his campaign was cut short once again after featuring in just seven games.

This is nothing short of a disaster for the player and the Panthers. McCaffrey just hasn’t been able to stay healthy since signing his long-term, lucrative contract extension and the onus will now be on the likes of Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah to shoulder the load.

Both backups have flashed on occasions this season. The Panthers also have Reggie Bonnafon and Spencer Brown on the practice squad if they need additional assistance out of the backfield following the bye week.

Carolina Panthers could sign a veteran RB after Christian McCaffrey’s injury.

However, there is also the option of bringing in a free agent to further strengthen the ranks. Although just how likely this is with almost nothing to play for is down to how much the front office believes in the team’s ability to potentially turn things around.

The whole situation just sucks for McCaffrey. One of the league’s good guys who has been nothing short of phenomenal when fit and firing on the field.

Without further ado, here are four free-agent running backs the Panthers might consider.
