As stated previously, the Carolina Panthers might be willing to go with what they have over the next five games. But should they scour the free-agent market for another potential reinforcement, then someone like T.J. Yeldon could fit the bill.

The former second-round pick hasn’t been seen since the end of the 2020 season when the Buffalo Bills placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of their playoff push. Yeldon has played just nine games over the last two seasons, so just what sort of football shape the player is in would be a major stumbling block to this potential move.

Yeldon looked like a running back of real promise as a rookie with the Jacksonville Jaguars, rushing for 742 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. Although he was used more in multiple-back sets over his next three years with the team.

In fairness to Yeldon, he did display some explosiveness from the 10 carries he generated in Buffalo last time around, going for seven yards-per-carry. But whether the Panthers want to bring in a veteran at this stage in the wake of Christian McCaffrey’s injury is highly debatable.

However, if they opt to go down this particular route, then Yeldon might be worth a look depending on his conditioning after almost a year away from the gridiron.
