Le’Veon Bell
This would be a little out of left-field. But nothing the Carolina Panthers will do in free agency is going to top bringing quarterback Cam Newton back to the organization.
The front office has shown a willingness to go bold in the past. Although if they did look in the direction of Le’Veon Bell, it would be nothing short of a bombshell and probably ill-advised at this juncture.
Bell was once considered the best running back in the league not so long ago. Sitting out his final season with the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a contract dispute and signing with the New York Jets culminated in an alarming drop-off in production that he hasn’t been able to recover from.
Things tailed off dramatically for Bell at the Kansas City Chiefs and he averaged just 2.7 yards-per-carry with the Baltimore Ravens before they cut him loose recently.
Simply put, his best days are long gone.
And Bell might now be out of chances.
The Panthers aren’t in desperate need of assistance considering they already have Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah. Had they been in a better position to contend, then acquiring someone like Bell would be a more realistic proposition.
But even then, it would be a massive gamble considering his production of late.
