Keith Taylor Jr. – Carolina Panthers CB

When Keith Taylor Jr. was drafted in the fifth round by the Carolina Panthers, he was seen as more of a development project that might become part of the cornerback rotation in the coming years. Instead, the rookie has firmly established himself as a player that can assist on defense with maturity beyond his years.

Taylor was thrust into action perhaps earlier than expected and thrived with additional responsibility on his shoulders. The Washington product hasn’t looked overawed in the slightest and has more than held his own on the outside or in the slot when it comes to coverage.

This all bodes well for Taylor, who should get even more playing time now Donte Jackson is on the shelf. How he performs could make the Panthers think twice about whether or not they extend the former LSU sensation in 2022.

Carolina’s draft class has been solid overall. Although not taking a franchise left tackle and a clear resistance to start Brady Christensen in his most comfortable position is a constant source of frustration.

Taylor can be enormously proud of his efforts in Year 1 of his professional career. Hopefully, for the player and the Panthers, there is much more to come once he further develops his exciting skill set this offseason and beyond.

If Taylor can do this, then the Panthers have a player of substantial promise on their hands.
