Carolina Panthers Pick No. 193

Elijah Mitchell – RB

  • Original 2021 pick: Deonte Brown – OL

As stated previously, there hasn’t been a great deal wrong with Chuba Hubbard’s production in 2021. Even if the same cannot be said of the situation surrounding sixth-round selection Deonte Brown.

The Carolina Panthers took a flier on the mammoth prospect out of Alabama despite some weight issues which reared their head during training camp. It’s been a long slog for Brown since joining the team and the interior lineman hasn’t been active much as a result.

Brown also spent time on the reserve/injured list himself. But he has now been activated and considering the Panthers have very little to play for, it might be worth the coaching staff giving him a good run in the team and seeing what they have.

That being said, in this situation the Panthers opt to select Elijah Mitchell, a talented running back who is really coming to the fore with the San Francisco 49ers. He looks to be another dual-threat weapon capable of carrying a significant workload – something that only adds to Kyle Shanahan’s run-first offense.

Mitchell is averaging 4.8 yards-per-carry and has brought in 12 receptions from 13 targets this season. As the late-round value goes, San Francisco has hit the jackpot and considering how well his skillset compliments Christian McCaffrey, the Louisiana product would have been a tremendous fit in Carolina.
