Carolina Panthers must stoke the fire

Cam Newton‘s homecoming did wonders for the team and fanbase alike. Electrifying a group that had very little to be excited about even before Sam Darnold went down for the year with a partially broken shoulder.

However, that energy has quickly dissipated and looks like no more than a small blip on the radar after back-to-back losses for the Carolina Panthers before the bye.

You can’t really blame anyone for being discouraged at this point though. The season is all but lost and there isn’t really anything to give hope that next year will be any different.

There are simply too many holes to patch in one offseason. But, that doesn’t mean the team has to play like there is nothing left to play for.

If Matt Rhule wants to salvage anything from this season to build on, bringing a bit of fire, some emotion, back to this squad will go a long way.

There are two ways to respond to adversity, either you get sad or you get mad. And this team needs to start getting mad.

The amount of hung heads and defeated body language that has been shown by the Panthers this season is simply disheartening. That kind of reaction only makes things worse on and off the field.

On the flip side, getting angry and turning this adversity into a chip on the shoulder is something that players have made a career out of. Getting them fired up and ready to prove everyone wrong may be the only way to finish on a high note.
