Carolina Panthers might have something bigger in mind

Team owner David Tepper has been very patient up to now.

The Carolina Panthers haven’t had a winning season since the billionaire bought the franchise from Jerry Richardson and that appears unlikely to change in 2021, so his influence cannot be ignored when it comes to determining just who is going to be under center next season and beyond.

Something has to give here. Either Tepper throws his weight around and demands a big move in the trade market for a veteran, or the Panthers build through the draft either this year or next.

It’s a fine line.

And to be honest, it could go either way.

Tepper made no secret of his desire to land Deshaun Watson during the offseason and even approached the Houston Texans once again before the trade deadline. A situation that the Panthers will continue to monitor closely, one suspects.

Others like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson could also be available next spring.

Drafting Kenny Pickett would probably take the Panthers out of consideration when it comes to selecting from a 2023 NFL Draft quarterback class that is loaded with top talent. This is another potential outcome that shouldn’t be overlooked.

In conclusion, selecting Pickett seems unlikely where the Panthers are concerned. But after an exceptional 2021 season, it cannot be ruled out entirely.
