Tre Boston – Former Carolina Panthers S

Just one season removed from making Pro Football Focus’ All-Clutch Team, safety Tre Boston was shown the door just 12 months after signing a contract extension. This was something of a surprise considering the veteran’s status within the locker room, but he was hung out to dry as the Carolina Panthers looked to move Jeremy Chinn onto the backend alongside Juston Burris.

Boston can feel hard done by. He clearly loves the organization and would have had no trouble stepping back into a backup or rotational role at this stage of his career.

Considering how the likes of Sam Franklin and Sean Chandler have struggled, this decision is one Carolina would probably like to have back.

The North Carolina product has more experience and a fantastic ability to motivate others around him. Something that would have been of use from a rotational role and especially considering Burris spent time on the sidelines for a second straight year.

It’s been shocking to see Boston sitting out the season with no apparent interest from elsewhere. Whether or not it is the end of his time in the league remains to be seen and this will probably be officially determined by any potential move his spring.

However, nobody can dispute the Panthers could have used his energy on the backend and on the sidelines in a reduced role.
