Carolina Panthers run defense continues to regress
When the Carolina Panthers run defense struggles to stop the opposition, the team tends to lose. Although Phil Snow’s unit has shown slight improvements in this critical area of play overall, the last few outings are a cause for concern and something that needs to be rectified at the earliest possible opportunity.
The talent is there to be far better than they have been stopping the run. Derrick Brown and DaQuan Jones are a formidable defensive tackle tandem when firing on all cylinders, with the likes of Haason Reddick and Shaq Thompson also providing assistance at the second level when called upon.
Just why this isn’t clicking lately is anybody’s guess. But if teams are allowed to dictate the tempo through the run game, it’s something the Panthers don’t have answers for more often than not.
Carolina is conceding 122.0 yards per game on the ground over their last three contests. Anyone with a prolific interior offensive line has had their way with the Panthers this season and it’s down to the coaching staff and the players to react in a positive fashion and give their secondary a fighting chance.
The Panthers come up against some strong running attacks between now and the end of the season. So the prospect of things regressing further cannot be ruled out unless adjustments are made to the team’s approach.
