Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers QB

Cam Newton made a big call to make his return to the Carolina Panthers. There wasn’t much interest from elsewhere following his release by the New England Patriots and the sense of romance cannot be ignored when those in power offered an olive branch to potentially assist them with their quarterback complications.

The honeymoon period wore off pretty quickly. Three straight losses have seen the player regress considerably and two more turnovers against the Atlanta Falcons meant P.J. Walker saw some reps under center once again.

There is a hint of Carolina setting Newton up to fail.

A move made to appease the fans and not much else.

With the Panthers set to take on the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers twice before the curtain on their 2021 season comes down, it’s going to take a monumental effort from Newton to turn things around. But if Carolina cuts him loose in favor of giving Sam Darnold another go, it is not going to go down well.

Perhaps the best possible solution for all parties is Newton getting a one-year, prove-it deal with a full offseason under his belt. However, if the Panthers decide to clean house with their coaching staff, then the former Auburn star might also be heading out of the door for a second time.
