Phil Hoskins – Carolina Panthers DT
After a promising official debut for Phil Hoskins at the Miami Dolphins before the bye, it was followed by just six snaps in Week 14. This was a major disappointment for the defensive tackle and fans who wanted to see more of the seventh-round pick in action.
Hoskins did absolutely nothing wrong in Miami. He was one of the team’s bright spots and showed flashes of generating pressure along the way.
The Kentucky product was always going to be a work in progress. But we are officially at the business end of the campaign and giving Hoskins more reps is going to do far more good than harm at this juncture.
The Carolina Panthers are coming up against difficult opposition over the next month – including the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers twice – so what better way for Hoskins to learn than in the face of some elite offensive lines before the season comes to a conclusion.
Hoskins has the motor and the power to potentially make a difference. Although getting reps might be easier said than done considering the presence of both DaQuan Jones and Derrick Brown on the interior.
Still, it’s an option to strongly consider for the long-term, which is what the Panthers should be focusing on right now.
