The Carolina Panthers have to set the tone early or risk a potential blowout at the Buffalo Bills. Establishing the run is the only way to do this, but that’s easier said than done against a top defensive unit boasting some familiar faces.
It appears as if Matt Rhule wants to move forward with a run-first approach. But this plan needs to be fluid if the Bills get out to a commanding early advantage.
With no Christian McCaffrey to shoulder the load, rookie Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah will be tasked with putting up the yards needed to set some sort of tempo. The Oklahoma State product has flashed real promise over his first year in a professional environment and an impressive performance against such high-quality opposition is only going to assist his cause moving forward.
Hubbard hasn’t gone over 40 rushing yards since Week 8 at the Atlanta Falcons. To make matters worse, the Bills are giving up just 109.4 yards-per-game on the ground – ranked No. 12 across the league.
