Carolina Panthers penalty woes

Another game, another ill-disciplined performance from the Carolina Panthers.

One can point to the players – and they deserve plenty of blame for this constant source of frustration – but at some stage, the coaching staff has to look at their own methods and wonder why things aren’t changing.

Matt Rhule coming out with criticism is passing the buck. Head coaches need to take responsibility for the team’s failings and something the former Baylor man seems unwilling to do in pursuit of saving his own skin.

Officials have been at Panthers’ practice for the last two weeks and nothing has altered. Carolina gave up a total of five penalties for 55 yards, but it was more the timing of almost every infringement that held the team back in crucial moments.

This is sloppy football. Something that’s been a running theme for the Panthers during their 2-9 run following a promising 3-0 start.

It’s simply unacceptable. But it’s highly unlikely anything will change with just three games remaining in 2021.

Rhule is under real pressure after another losing season was confirmed at the Buffalo Bills. Penalties are playing their part, but the fact this is an ongoing occurrence is on the head coach.
