5 big talking points from Panthers’ defeat at the Bills in Week 15

Carolina Panthers OL is the worst in the league
I’m sure this statement doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone reading.
Once again we saw this unit underperform as they’ve done practically all season. The Carolina Panthers’ offensive line give up four sacks, and Cam Newton was constantly under pressure.
Not surprisingly, we saw left tackle Cam Erving show little to prove he is a starter in this league. For someone who at points this season has said a lot to the media, his play has done nothing to back it up, but at least he’s got those long arms.
Couple this very below-average play and head coach Matt Rhule’s refusal to involve rookies Brady Christensen and Deonte Brown, it begs the question of what offensive line coach Pat Meyer is actually doing with this unit.
If the Panthers do make some changes to their coaching staff this offseason, one would imagine Meyer will be given his marching orders. Although poor recruitment is equally as accountable for Carolina’s struggles in this particular area of the field.
It’s unlikely anything will alter over the next three games. That’s why it’s absolutely essential Christensen and Brown get meaningful reps to assist with their development.
Whether that happens given Rhule’s stubbornness is another matter.
