Another losing season for team owner David Tepper
When David Tepper acquired the Carolina Panthers for a record $2.25 billion in 2018, he promised to win in the Carolinas. Since then, the organization has gone a combined 22-40, which could become 22-43 with three games of the 2021 season remaining.
Not the winning football Tepper promised.
Sunday’s defeat at the Buffalo Bills confirmed once again that the Panthers would end the season with a losing record for a fourth straight year.
Tepper has already shown he has little patience in the pursuit of winning. After just 12 months, the billionaire made it clear he had seen enough of Teddy Bridgewater and was then very aggressive in trying to acquire Matthew Stafford and Deshaun Watson.
Its obvious we’ve seen a regression under Matt Rhule in his second year. Although this was Tepper’s first hire as an owner, don’t be surprised to see him cut ties with the head coach just two years into a whopping seven-year, $60 million deal.
The argument could be made that Tepper is not a football guy and should leave the running of the organization to the front office. But he is clearly hands-on and is going to be an active part of this franchise moving forward.
