John Miller – Carolina Panthers OG

After John Miller was declared available for the Carolina Panthers in Week 15, there was absolutely no doubt Matt Rhule would instantly install him into the lineup. The head coach remains steadfast in his belief that this underperforming offensive line group can put together a collective effort at some stage, but it was once again another torrid outing at the Buffalo Bills and something that’s been the story of the 2021 season.

Miller is just not up to the required standard.

It’s that simple, really.

His production on running downs has been encouraging at times. But Miller’s inability to pass protect consistently has long been his undoing in Carolina.

As stated previously, the Panthers have nothing to play for other than pride. That’s why it’s essential that young players get more meaningful reps moving forward to assist their development.

One such individual is Deonte Brown, a sixth-round pick out of Alabama who’s been a relative afterthought due to injuries and reported weight issues. He was a healthy scratch once again on Sunday, which simply has to change if Carolina wants to know just what the first-year-pro can do.

It’s highly unlikely Miller will be back in 2022. So evaluating for the long-term is the only sensible option remaining.
