Major Carolina Panthers OL makeover

The concerns were evident surrounding the Carolina Panthers’ offensive line before the season. Questionable free-agent signings and not drafting a top college prospect in the first two rounds left many wondering just how bad this unit was going to be in 2021.

As it turned out, things were much worse than even the biggest pessimist expected.

Carolina’s protection has been nothing short of embarrassing almost from start to finish this season. A substantial makeover in this key area of the field is of paramount importance in readiness for the 2022 campaign.

One could make an argument that Taylor Moton is the only player worth keeping around. The right tackle’s been the best of a bad bunch after getting a long-term deal before competitive action began, but even he is finding life tough with so much inconsistency around him.

Finding the right linemen in free agency doesn’t come cheap. The Panthers are also without a Day 2 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft following their trades for Sam Darnold and CJ Henderson.

Hopefully, Brady Christensen and Deonte Brown make the necessary improvements to feature. Securing a franchise left tackle early in the draft should also be a top priority as Cam Erving just hasn’t cut the mustard.

Until the Panthers get better on the offensive line, it makes absolutely no difference who is trying to conjure up miracles under center.
