Carolina Panthers devise a plan at QB

One of the biggest catalysts behind a lack of progression in the second year of Matt Rhule’s reign is no consistent production from the quarterback position. The Carolina Panthers made the biggest of gambles by acquiring Sam Darnold via trade from the New York Jets, but the former first-round pick was unable to build on a promising start and is clearly not the long-term answer despite the team picking up his fifth-year option.

P.J. Walker’s proven nothing more than a solid backup at best. The Panthers also made a sensational return possible for Cam Newton, who injected life into the organization but hasn’t come with much in the way of winning so far.

Nobody can blame Newton for this.

Bringing him back so late in the day left the Auburn product almost no time to get into a rhythm and Sunday’s game might be the last time he turns out for Carolina at Bank of America Stadium.

Don’t be shocked if David Tepper makes another bold bid for someone like Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson. There is also the possibility of Carolina using their projected top-10 pick on the position from a class that has more questions than answers.

It doesn’t matter who it is, the Panthers need a clear plan at quarterback. Otherwise, it’s going to be yet another campaign of abject mediocrity in 2022.
