FOX Sports analyst Skip Bayless unleashed on the Carolina Panthers for their handling of the quarterback situation this season.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where things are going wrong for the Carolina Panthers. Some encouraging progress on defense is being negated by a distinct lack of efficiency on the offensive side of the football, with a dismal offensive line and revolving door at quarterback playing a leading role in a concerning run of results since their 3-0 start.

This is not going unnoticed by those around the league and the media. Matt Rhule is a man under enormous pressure and unless things start trending on an upward curve – and quickly – then team owner David Tepper might be forced into a franchise-altering decision once the campaign comes to a conclusion.

One of the biggest flaws in Rhule’s recruitment has been under center. Releasing Cam Newton in favor of Teddy Bridgewater didn’t exactly go to plan, P.J. Walker is a turnover-prone backup and the daring trade to acquire Sam Darnold from the New York Jets was a disaster.

This, of course, led the Panthers back to Newton. Although just how much of that was Rhule’s doing is highly questionable given how eager the head coach has been to throw the former NFL MVP under the bus.

Carolina is moving forward with Newton as the starter in Week 16 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which could be the last time he suits up at Bank of America Stadium if a contract extension isn’t offered. However, Rhule also said Darnold would see get some reps as part of his two-quarterback approach that rarely works in either college or the NFL.

Skip Bayless didn’t hold back when asked about the Carolina Panthers.

On the latest edition of Undisputed on FOX Sports, Skip Bayless did not hold back on the current situation in Carolina. The analyst called the Panthers a “clown show” before launching a tirade on how things are unfolding between Rhule and the players under his leadership.

The Panthers are rapidly evolving into the laughing stock of the league. An era defined by indecisiveness that is wasting some obvious talent across the roster.

Rhule developed a reputation as a solid program builder in college. But his inability to alter methods and adjust in-game simply isn’t flying at the next level.

On top of this, the Panthers came in for further ridicule on Wednesday when listing cornerback Stephon Gilmore on the injury report. Something that was clearly news to the All-Pro when asked about his status for Sunday’s game by the media.

The only thing that’s going to take the heat off now is winning. Whether Carolina has that in them against NFC South divisional rivals over their final fixtures is another matter entirely.

Admitting a mistake is something Tepper probably won’t do lightly.

He entrusted Rhule with the final say on personnel moves and gave him a seven-year, $60 million deal. So cutting his losses after just two seasons might not even be in Tepper’s train of thought right now.
