It promises to be an emotionally-charged atmosphere at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday when the Carolina Panthers conclude their home slate with a testing clash against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This has nothing to do with playoff hopes or even turning things around on the field, but it all revolves around star quarterback Cam Newton.
The former NFL MVP is set to start despite Sam Darnold returning to the fold. This could be Newton‘s last time under center for the Panthers if he isn’t extended this offseason.
Fans that worshipped Newton from the moment he entered the league as the No. 1 overall selection in 2011 didn’t get the opportunity to give him a hero’s send-off in 2019. They expected him back before Matt Rhule chose to release him and move forward with Teddy Bridgewater.
This situation has now come full circle after Newton was brought back. Although it hasn’t come with much in the way of success from a results standpoint, the signal-caller has given the fanbase hope and someone they’ll follow to the end of the earth no matter what.
Newton was keen not to reminisce ahead of the game during Thursday’s presser. Instead, focusing on the only thing that matters to him – winning.
That being said, here are three reasons why Panthers fans must show out for their quarterback in Week 16.
