Cam Newton might not be done just yet
Cam Newton might not have filled up the stat sheet in a miraculous fashion. But he was always going to find life difficult coming into the Carolina Panthers so late in the season and in front of arguably the worst offensive line in franchise history.
However, there is some life in the old dog yet. That’s why one cannot rule out Newton getting an extension from the Panthers.
Not yet, at least.
Sam Darnold’s already proven incapable of leading Carolina where they want to go. It might have been a while ago, but Newton has been there and done that.
Finishing the season strongly will give the Panthers a big call to make regarding his future. And make no mistake, the fan reaction to Newton will also play a role in whichever way they choose to go.
Newton also has the support of his teammates, with wide receiver Robby Anderson stating in his Thursday presser that he believes the signal-caller should get another shot in 2022 given the circumstances.
Panthers WR Robby Anderson says Cam Newton deserves a chance to play QB for Carolina next season, saying few put in his position could have succeeded. Even the Tom Bradys and Aaron Rodgers of the world.

This might be Newton’s final hurrah. But the quarterback isn’t treating it as such and the belief from his fellow players and the fans in the stands could give him the push he needs against the Super Bowl champions.
Get behind Newton for good or bad. After everything he’s been through to get to this point, nobody deserves it more.
