Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers QB

Cam Newton deserves credit for navigating an extremely difficult situation. His return has been bumpy, but the quarterback has been a professional from the start.

Against the Buffalo Bills, the Carolina Panthers starter completed a tad over 47 percent of his passes for 156 yards, two total touchdowns, and one interception. Unimpressive numbers from a football perspective, but Newton was actually the fifth-highest scoring signal-caller in Week 15 with a total of 23.34 fantasy points.

Start or Sit in Week 16?

Buyer Beware.

Here are the reasons to start him:

  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have given up the 24th most points (18.04) to quarterbacks on average this year.
  • Newton has a passing and rushing touchdown in three out of the five games he’s played this season.
  • The Buccaneers rank in the bottom half of the NFL in passing yards allowed per game.

However, Matt Rhule’s quarterback plan is too unpredictable. If there’s no guarantee Newton will play the whole game with Sam Darnold active and set to get some time on the field, I would advise looking for alternatives.
