5 bold predictions for the Carolina Panthers at Saints in Week 17
By Dean Jones
Here are some bold predictions for the Carolina Panthers as they look to end a torrid run of form at the New Orleans Saints in Week 17.
The Carolina Panthers are winding down what’s been a 2021 season full of underachievement and nothing much to cheer for. This wasn’t exactly what many had in mind after such a promising opening to the campaign, but Matt Rhule’s men have completely disintegrated in front of our eyes and now find themselves at 5-10 heading into an NFC South divisional matchup at the New Orleans Saints.
Although it would be difficult for Sean Payton’s squad to make the postseason, they are not entirely out of it just yet. The Saints are also getting plenty back from the COVID-19 list in time for the contest, which could complicate matters as the Panthers look to end a dismal run of results.
This is a pride issue. With nothing left to play for, we’ll find out just how much remains within the locker room and on the coaching staff over the next two games before an important offseason begins.
Without further ado, here are five bold predictions for the Panthers in Week 17 at the Saints.
Bold Prediction No. 1
C.J. Henderson – Carolina Panthers CB
- Gains 4+ passes defended
Things are about to get serious for C.J. Henderson. The cornerback has been brought on gradually following his trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars, but with Stephon Gilmore unlikely to feature, the onus will be on the former first-round pick to stand up and be counted.
Henderson’s flashed some quality, although he remains a work in progress from the outside looking in. Sean Payton will likely target the Florida product heavily throughout despite implementing a run-first scheme with Taysom Hill and how he handles it is going to be of critical importance.
This could be the breakout game Henderson’s been looking for. Our first bold prediction is the corner to gain four passes defended at the Caesars Superdome.
