Which Carolina Panthers players won’t be missed when their contracts officially come to an end following the 2021 season?

It’s going to be an offseason of immense importance for the Carolina Panthers. Another dismal campaign with almost no signs of real progress means certain influential figures within the organization will be nervously looking over their shoulders once the campaign eventually comes to a conclusion after Week 18.

There are two more games for the Panthers to potentially salvage some sort of credibility from 2021. Although some have already made their minds firmly up surrounding Matt Rhule and his process since taking over as head coach.

Whether Rhule remains for the third year of his deal or not, there are some big decisions awaiting Carolina in terms of recruitment and which roster members deserve an extended stay with the organization.

With this in mind, here are five Panthers players who are unlikely to come back and won’t be missed all that much.

Alex Erickson – Carolina Panthers WR/KR

Alex Erickson hasn’t done a lot wrong since joining the team. But he’s not exactly a game-changing wide receiver or returner, either.

The former Cincinnati Bengal has been used sparingly in the passing game and is averaging just 8.9 yards per punt return. When the time comes to retain or release, then it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world to see Erickson hit the free-agent market.

In truth, the Panthers have better options. Or at least they should by the time 2022 rolls around.
