5 Carolina Panthers players who won’t be missed in 2022

Ian Thomas – Carolina Panthers TE
In fairness to Ian Thomas, the tight end has brought the blocking aspect of his game along in an encouraging fashion. However, any hopes the Carolina Panthers had of the former fourth-round pick becoming Greg Olsen’s long-term successor have now diminished.
Thomas remains a non-factor in the passing game, bringing in just 15 receptions from 27 targets for 155 receiving yards in 2022. The Panthers simply cannot rely on the Indiana product and this will probably come with a parting of the ways once his contract expires.
Carolina does possess an exciting tight end in Tommy Tremble. The third-round pick out of Notre Dame has flashed promise as a rookie and if further strides are made during the offseason, it could result in a substantial role when the next campaign begins.
As for Thomas, he’s flattered to deceive after a superb first year with the Panthers. But there is a chance he thrives elsewhere given the physical talents at his disposal.
Sometimes a fresh start is good for all parties. Thomas just doesn’t fit into the offensive scheme for whatever reason and he’s not done enough to prove himself worthy of a longer-term commitment.
Thomas had a huge opportunity and didn’t make the most of it. That’s the long and short of it, really.
