Carolina Panthers could sign Mitchell Trubisky

Another possibility would be to sign a passer in free agency. There are a pair of former No. 2 overall selections that could present themselves as enticing options for the Carolina Panthers.

Mitchell Trubisky is currently serving as backup, but he will be a free agent this offseason. Perhaps he’d be motivated by the chance to become a starter again.

Trubisky is a well-renowned name in the region, as he was a collegiate standout just down the road with North Carolina. While he’s universally remembered as the bust that was chosen over elite franchise-altering quarterbacks such as Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, he wasn’t a total failure on the Chicago Bears.

While failing to live up to the lofty expectations of being a high-end draft pick, he did lead the Bears to the playoffs in two of his four seasons as the starter. Something that often gets overlooked in the grand scheme of things.

Through four years in the Windy City, Trubisky accumulated more than 10,000 yards through the air along with 64 touchdown passes. He also poses a threat to make some plays with his legs, as he tallied more than 1,000 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns while a member of the Bears.

Sitting behind Josh Allen on the Buffalo Bills this season was needed. But whether the Panthers want to take on another reclamation project is another matter.
