Carolina Panthers could sign Marcus Mariota

Marcus Mariota is a perfect example of a player whose career went in the wrong direction. Through his first two seasons guiding the Tennessee Titans‘ offensive attack, the quarterback boasted a completion percentage of more than 60 percent while throwing 45 touchdowns to just 19 interceptions.

Unfortunately for Mariota, his production went downhill following a strong sophomore season. In his last three years in Nashville, he threw for just 31 scores compared to 25 picks.

Halfway through the 2019 season, he was replaced by Ryan Tannehill who is yet to relinquish that job. Mariota signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, and he’s spent the last two years serving as Derek Carr’s backup.

Like Trubisky, Mariota also brings a dual-threat dynamic. This could make both players fascinating fits with the Carolina Panthers as Matt Rhule clearly likes having a quarterback that can make plays with his feet.

In Trubisky’s case, maybe he grows accustomed to his cushy role getting paid seven figures a year to be a backup on a contending team. However, second chances don’t come around often in the NFL.

Both of these players are yet to hit 30. If either of them desires the opportunity to prove they have what it takes to be a starter in this league again, the opportunity Carolina presents could be difficult to turn down.
