5 dream head coaching hires if the Panthers remove Matt Rhule
By Dean Jones
Jim Caldwell
One of the more bizarre decisions made by the Detroit Lions throughout their indifferent recent history was removing Jim Caldwell from his duties. And make no mistake, they’ve been paying for it ever since.
Caldwell has been a hot name among head coaching rumors this offseason as the penny finally drops regarding what a superb leader of men he actually is. The Carolina Panthers would need a firm hand if they did part ways with Matt Rhule after just two seasons and this seems like a solid fit from the outside looking in.
Going to the college ranks for Rhule hasn’t worked out as David Tepper would have liked.
Not yet at least.
If he cuts his losses with Rhule, then it’s vital the owner goes for someone with legitimate NFL coaching experience and a solid track record for good measure.
There is a ton of talent on the Panthers. Although the offensive line and Carolina’s suspect quarterback situation is clearly holding the team back.
Installing someone like Caldwell – a man that’s done more with less throughout his career – could be a shrewd move. But judging by the interest he’s generating, the Panthers would need to act swiftly.
