5 dream head coaching hires if the Panthers remove Matt Rhule
By Dean Jones
Kevin O’Connell
Offensive guys are all the rage in today’s NFL. New rules are clearly favoring this side of the football and teams across the league cannot help but cast their eyes on the next big thing in a bid to turn around their respective franchises.
Kevin O’Connell is a name that might not be coming up all that much. But it’s hard to ignore the fine work he’s doing alongside Sean McVay on the Los Angeles Rams.
McVay gets a lot of the credit, obviously. But O’Connell’s played a significant role and his previous experience working as a quarterbacks coach is something else that should serve the Carolina Panthers well if they went in this direction.
Of course, there might be more enticing candidates if the Panthers do end up firing Matt Rhule. However, don’t be surprised if something out of left-field like this is also considered.
The Rams won’t want to lose O’Connell. However, it’s an opportunity the young coach and former player would not pass up in a hurry.
Rhule looks likely to keep his job unless something cataclysmic happens between now and the offseason period. If Tepper hasn’t done it by now, it’s unlikely he will at all.
Failing to recognize an error has the potential to set the organization back for years to come.
