4 Carolina Panthers who could contemplate retirement in 2022
By Dean Jones
Which Carolina Panthers could contemplate retiring from the game after a disappointing 2021 season comes to a conclusion?
Another turbulent season for the Carolina Panthers is mercifully almost at an end. It’s been a hard slog for those watching the team go through yet more complications and no real progression in terms of results, so this weekend’s game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers comes with a sense of relief for supporters and probably the players themselves.
It’ll be interesting to see what transpires within the organization this offseason. The future of head coach Matt Rhule appears safe, according to reports, but team owner David Tepper will evaluate every possible option in the coming weeks in a bid to get the Panthers out of their evident slump.
Plenty of established veterans are also out of contract and looking for new deals. It will be difficult to keep them all considering Carolina has $28.3 million in cap space currently and with no Day 2 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to speak of, it only restricts their recruitment further without a big trade down.
The offseason brings a period of reflection for players and coaches alike. For some, it might see them contemplate walking away from the game entirely – although they’ll be few and far between considering how young Carolina’s roster is right now.
With this in mind, we picked out four Panthers who could think about retirement when the 2021 season finally comes to an end.
