6 realistic starting QB options for the Carolina Panthers in 2022
By Nick Halden
Mitchell Trubisky
A narrative is an interesting tool and one that is on full display for the Chicago Bears this season. It was only three short years ago that they had a genius offensive coach who was elevating Mitchell Trubisky and inventing an offense that had the NFC North outfit back in contention.
The Bears got rid of the problem in Trubisky, bringing in Nick Foles followed by Justin Fields. Both quarterbacks have also struggled and now it is Matt Nagy who must go.
The same coach who elevated Trubisky is responsible for Fields struggling at the level he has this season despite his obvious talent.
Let’s be honest, the truth is down the middle. The Chicago coach can win with a franchise quarterback – something he is yet to find and he bears responsibility for that.
Trubisky is a better quarterback than he has been given credit for. In the right system, he might be a starting-caliber player, after all.
If the Carolina Panthers want to commit to a gap year to reset, they could do worse than Trubisky. We know what he is at this point in his career and the franchise would need to approach it with this in mind.
Trubisky is a game manager who can scramble and make huge plays with his legs. He isn’t an elite passer, but he might be a better option than anyone the Panthers have on their current roster.
Sad to say. But it could be true nonetheless.
