3 Panthers players who need a massive performance at the Bucs

Brian Burns – Carolina Panthers DE
Considering how much hype surrounded Brian Burns heading into the season, many fans have been disappointed with the defensive end’s contribution overall. The Florida State product did reach his first Pro Bowl and is one sack away from reaching double-digits for the first time in his career, but the speedy edge player has not entered the truly elite category just yet.
Burns leaves a lot out on the field in terms of sacks and tackles. There are also some concerns surrounding his ability to impact games on running downs due to suspect gap discipline.
The Carolina Panthers would be far worse off without Burns, who is forming a dynamic partnership with Haason Reddick with 20 quarterback takedowns between them. However, he needs to dominate at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and alleviate some slight doubts from supporters before getting a good period of rest during the offseason.
There’s nothing to suggest Burns is not more than capable. The former first-round pick has yet to have a statement game in 2021 despite some eye-catching numbers, so what better way to sign-off than producing it at Raymond James Stadium.
Burns has one year remaining on his current deal – although the Panthers are no doubt going to pick up his fifth-year option. That gives them a little more time to decide just how much money they are willing to commit long-term when it comes to the edge defender.
Hopes will remain high for Burns. But finishing the season on a high note is of paramount importance.
