5 worst moments of the Carolina Panthers’ 2021 season
By Dean Jones
What were the worst moments of what became a season of massive underachievement for the Carolina Panthers in 2021?
The dust is now beginning to settle on what eventually became a disastrous 2021 season for the Carolina Panthers. Things started well before tailing off in a dramatic fashion, leaving morale within the team’s fanbase lower than ever as a result.
Carolina keeping faith with Matt Rhule has been met with disapproval on social media. The Panthers clearly feel that the former Baylor and Temple coach can turn things around in Year 3, but it’s absolutely vital they nail almost every personnel decision in the coming weeks to put themselves in the best possible position.
There were some good moments, but they were fleeting and ended up resembling fool’s gold. Something those in power should not stand for if things continue in a similar fashion next time around.
Without further ado, we examined the wreckage and picked out the five most disappointing moments from Carolina’s 2021 season.
Moment No. 1
Jaycee Horn’s injury
Jaycee Horn made an instant impression for the Carolina Panthers after they drafted him No. 8 overall. The cornerback looked like a true shutdown presence that was sorely lacking, playing with a swagger that made him an instant favorite with the team’s fanbase.
Opposing quarterbacks already looked reluctant throwing in the South Carolina product’s direction. But a broken foot suffered in Week 3 at the Houston Texans meant his promising rookie campaign was cut short in an abrupt fashion.
This had a massive impact on the way Carolina approached things defensively. But providing Horn recovers fully, he’ll be counted on heavily in 2022.
