Carolina Panthers OC

  • Duce Staley (Detroit Lions)

Although Duce Staley does not have any play-calling experience in the NFL, which appears to be a major requirement after the failed Joe Brady experiment, he has been around the league for many years as a player and coach – with his transition coming in for significant praise and seeing his reputation grow as a result.

Staley enjoyed a nine-year playing career and has a Super Bowl ring to show for his efforts. Something that would command instant respect of the locker room in Carolina.

The coach is no stranger to the area having played his college football at South Carolina. Staley is currently assistant head coach/running backs coach with the Detroit Lions and has played an influential role in the development of stud sophomore D’Andre Swift.

This would fit in well with Matt Rhule’s desire for Carolina to become a run-first team. But the chances of Staley getting the job are decreasing by the day given how many already find themselves on the Panthers’ shortlist of candidates.

That being said, this would be a popular move. One that could galvanize an offense that’s been sorely lacking any sort of inspiration over the last two seasons.

Staley is clearly set for big things in the coaching world. He might also get a promotion in Detroit after the team showed signs of life as the campaign went on.
