Is Ikem Ekwonu the answer to the Carolina Panthers’ prayers?
By Dean Jones
How could Ikem Ekwonu help the Carolina Panthers?
There is no getting away from it, Ikem Ekwonu has the potential to instantly transform the Carolina Panthers and their issues protecting the quarterback. Those in power do value versatility in their offensive linemen, but considering how much Cam Erving struggled in 2021 and their uncertainty surrounding Brady Christensen’s best position, slotting the North Carolina State prospect onto the blindside could bring instant rewards.
This would also be a popular move within sections of the team’s fanbase who’ve supported the player throughout his time in college. However, the Panthers have a dilemma at No. 6 considering their need to acquire additional draft capital and something that could prevent them from landing a prospect of Ekwonu’s class.
Ekwonu is projected to go anywhere from the 5-15 range. Although the high likelihood is he’ll be a top-10 pick considering how well the player will test at the NFL Scouting Combine and individual workouts.
If the Panthers are serious about offensive line investment, then they could do far worse than look in Ekwonu’s direction. Someone that ticks every box and has all the athletic attributes Carolina sought heavily during their recruitment process last time around.
Ekwonu is a name who’ll be on Carolina’s radar. And don’t be shocked if you see him in a Panthers uniform next season.
