If the Carolina Panthers decided to go in a different direction and let Jermaine Carter take his chances elsewhere in free agency, then acquiring a solid veteran capable of making an immediate impact might be the smart route to go down if the price is right. With just $28.3 million in salary-cap space available currently, the decision-makers need to spend their money wisely and after another five-win campaign, the margin for error is slim at best.

Someone like Jayon Brown is well worth a look. The former fifth-round pick has been a key part of the Tennessee Titans‘ rotation since entering the league in 2017 and could be the spark Carolina needs to solidify matters on the interior.

Brown wouldn’t be classed as elite by any stretch. But he’s proven capable of generating pressure in the backfield, is an asset against the run, and also holds his own in coverage despite the odd mistake.

The UCLA product boasts career stats of 385 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, four interceptions, 28 passes defended, four forced fumbles, and 18 quarterback hits. Simply put, Brown represents an enticing option that could become available at the right price.

Carolina got some success with a former Titans player on defense in DaQuan Jones this season. And there is plenty to suggest Brown could also be a good scheme fit.
