4 reasons the Carolina Panthers should re-sign Cam Newton in 2022

Cam Newton is a leader
It didn’t take long for Cam Newton to firmly establish himself as a locker room leader once again with the Carolina Panthers. From the moment he walked in the door, the signal-caller began holding himself and others accountable – something that was sorely lacking before his return and the players clearly gravitated towards him as a result.
Although Newton didn’t do enough to become the undisputed No. 1 option, there is a lot to be said for how the player was spoken about by his teammates, general manager Scott Fitterer, and even head coach Matt Rhule once the campaign came to a conclusion.
The Panthers are in flux right now. Unless some substantial reinforcements are acquired during the offseason, then it could be another difficult year in 2022 looking at Carolina’s strength of schedule.
That’s why a prominent leader like Newton will be needed. Someone who demands the highest standards both from a personal perspective and from those he’s going into battle with.
Judging by Newton’s comments about some not fully buying in during his exit presser, it was evident he was not entirely happy with the overall commitment from certain individuals. Something that would need to change in a big way if an agreement is reached for his 2022 return.
Things might get worse before they get better. But having Newton as a key figure on and off the field might reap some rewards when it’s all said and done.
