4 things that must change for the Carolina Panthers in 2022

Carolina Panthers must hand personnel decisions to Scott Fitterer
In order for the Carolina Panthers to prise Matt Rhule from Baylor and keep him from the New York Giants, team owner David Tepper gave his head coach the final say on personnel decisions. Obviously, a seven-year, $62 million deal helps, but program building at the college level was why the organization committed so much to him in the first place.
However, Rhule’s methods haven’t necessarily translated to the next level. Constant mismanagement of the quarterback position and a clear failure to commit substantial resources for the offensive line saw the Panthers regress in 2021, which saw calls for drastic change fall on deaf ears where Tepper was concerned.
Now that the billionaire has obviously given Rhule a reprieve, it’s time for a shift in how things are managed from a personnel perspective. Handing full control to general manager Scott Fitterer might be the best possible solution for the franchise moving forward.
Rhule will get a big say, obviously. But the fact is he cannot be trusted to make the right moves considering how the last two years have gone.
Carolina is fortunate to have some experienced figures in the front office such as Fitterer and Dan Morgan. Something they might want to take advantage of.
This might end up being a pride thing for Rhule and Tepper. However, in order to put the organization in a better position, this has to be done as a matter of urgency.
