Has Matt Rhule bet his Carolina Panthers future on Ben McAdoo?
By Jason Huber
If Ben McAdoo fails, Matt Rhule won’t last the season
There were more popular candidates than Ben McAdoo to replace former offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who was fired by Matt Rhule midseason. However, Pep Hamilton turned down an interview, and quite frankly, the Carolina Panthers aren’t an attractive destination at this moment.
The truth of the matter is that Rhule has now made his bet with McAdoo, a guy who the pure definition of a gamble and who was a consultant on the Dallas Cowboys during the 2021 season.
It won’t matter how bad the quarterback or offensive line is. If Carolina’s offense isn’t light-years better than it was this past season, Rhule will undoubtedly be shown the door before the 2022 campaign comes to a conclusion.
The ‘popular’ hire doesn’t always work out. But if Rhule at least got a big name, he could justify a failure a bit more than running with someone with obvious ties.
Rhule has now fired four head coaches this year and if McAdoo fails, there is literally nobody left to blame but himself.
I’m all for Carolina’s success but looking at the track record of McAdoo, it doesn’t look promising.
