The Carolina Panthers could use some help on the backend alongside Jeremy Chinn moving forward. If the coaching staff decides to switch the former second-round pick back to the second level, then safety becomes one of their biggest needs.

Again, going down the college route brings its share of complications unless the Panthers want to take someone like Kyle Hamilton at No. 6 overall. However, considering the team’s need for offensive line help, finding a dynamic free agent could be more beneficial in the short team.

Should the Panthers opt to go in this direction, then Marcus Williams is a player well known to them that might be available. We’ve already discussed the upcoming financial problems on the New Orleans Saints, so keeping all their top stars is an impossible task even with some cap manipulation.

Williams has grown in stature with every passing season. It was another stellar campaign from the Utah product in 2021, which only added more dollars to his demands that the Saints simply don’t have right now.

Should someone of Williams’ caliber hit the market, then there will be a hoard of teams lining up to secure his services. A switch to Carolina might not be at the top of his list of destinations, but the benefits for Phil Snow’s defense would be exponential.
