5 free agents the Panthers could poach from NFC South rivals in 2022

O.J. Howard – TE
- 2021 team – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Even though the presence of Rob Gronkowski has been a tremendous asset for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a big reason why they won the Super Bowl in 2020, it hasn’t done O.J. Howard’s development any favors whatsoever. The talented tight end has been used sparingly on offense since the future Pro Football Hall of Famer’s arrival, which could lead to him to look at other offers with the promise of more involvement in free agency.
This should put the Carolina Panthers on red alert. They do have Tommy Tremble, but Ian Thomas is out of contract and the offense is crying out for an athletic pass-catching presence to make a difference across the middle and in the red zone.
Howard has never been given a fair chance. A serious injury last season that restricted him to just four games was something he hasn’t quite recovered from so far.
However, a change of scenery might be all Howard needs to reinvigorate his career. If he were to join the Panthers, the Alabama product instantly becomes their best tight end weapon unless Tremble makes unbelievable strides during the upcoming preparation period.
Considering how things have gone for Howard over the last two years, the Panthers might also get value for money with this potential deal. Something the team sorely needs due to their financial constraints.
