Bravvion Roy – Carolina Panthers DT

Although Bravvion Roy might not ever become a valuable starter at the NFL level, he showed enough during his second year to suggest a strong rotational role might be in the offing for the foreseeable future. The former sixth-round pick out of Baylor is another of Matt Rhule’s trusted figures from the college ranks, but he’s proven capable of carving his own path without relying too much on familiarity with the coaching staff.

The Carolina Panthers gave Roy plenty of responsibility in 2021, which followed from flashes as a rookie. There were some occasions where the defensive tackle struggled, but overall it was another clear step in the right direction.

With DaQuan Jones now out of contract, the Panthers might look to acquire some additional assistance in this area of the field if the veteran does not agree to an extension. Couple this with Yetur Gross-Matos catching the eye as a three-technique and the encouraging early-season production of Daviyon Nixon, Roy has a fight on his hands extending playing time.

Considering the pressure on Rhule heading into next season, Roy needs to continue making a splash in the event Carolina ends up parting ways with the head coach. Some might already be writing him off, but providing elements such as run defense and conditioning improve, there should still be a role for him to play.

In what capacity remains to be seen. But every solid team needs good rotational pieces and Roy definitely fits into this category, for now at least.
