Robby Anderson – Carolina Panthers WR

Much was made of the two-year extension given to wide receiver Robby Anderson before the 2021 season. An outstanding first campaign with the Carolina Panthers left many wondering if the Temple product could become another true No. 1 option alongside D.J. Moore long-term, with the pair forming a devastating partnership in the face of adversity in their first year together.

The arrival of Anderson’s former New York Jets teammate Sam Darnold via trade was potentially another thing working in the player’s favor. However, things did not go according to plan during a frustrating campaign almost from start to finish where the wideout is concerned.

Anderson looked a shell of himself. His early-season efforts were blighted by drops and it’s clear there was a timing issue between the player and Darnold that spilled over on the sidelines and probably behind the scenes.

The Panthers have to get more from Anderson moving forward. Trading the receiver seems unlikely considering the money still remaining on his deal, which is a situation they could have avoided, in all honesty.

There appears little doubt that Anderson has the talent to generate four figures in terms of yardage. But considering the hype surrounding him before competitive action began, it was a season of major underachievement.
