4 pros and cons to the Carolina Panthers drafting Malik Willis in 2022
By Dean Jones
Malik Willis has an X-factor the Carolina Panthers lack
One only has to look at the game-changing effort of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen during their epic playoff matchup to see what a prolific quarterback can do for any team. While it’s unrealistic to place Malik Willis in this company, the prospect does have some exciting traits that can hopefully develop into something more once he arrives at the next level.
Willis has a rare gift to make things happen off-script. His time in college was littered with moments that took your breath away, with the player boasting a dual-threat skill set that is currently all the rage across the league.
There are some areas of his game that need refinement. This is also not the strongest draft class for quarterbacks – especially compared to last year when the Carolina Panthers had a chance to select someone to man the position long-term.
With that being said, Willis might be the best of the bunch when it’s all said and done. The obvious complications surrounding his production can be fixed and for all the concerns surrounding new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, his work with the likes of Aaron Rodgers came in for significant praise before his move to the New York Giants.
Couple this with Sean Ryan also on Carolina’s staff, and this is a tremendous landing spot for Willis and one that could be mutually beneficial.
