Another player that contributed significantly to the unbelievable success during their 2010s was Thomas Davis. The linebacker was a relentless force against the run and in passing situations, coming back from two separate ACL tears to enjoy a hugely productive career before eventually retiring as a member of the Carolina Panthers last year.
Davis’ ability to motivate instantly saw him emerge as one of Carolina’s locker room leaders. His unrivaled passion for football came across on the field, on the sidelines, and in training camp, with players clearly gravitating towards the former Georgia Bulldog throughout his glittering spell with the franchise.
Now, there is no indication Davis would like to potentially become a head coach one day. But judging by the three-time Pro Bowler’s characteristics, it’s an option he might want to explore.
Davis possesses the necessary experience and gravitas to begin his journey and evolve into a hugely successful coach. His knowledge is second to none and this is matched by a fierce competitive will that would undoubtedly get the most out of young players looking to follow in his footsteps.
It remains a mystery as to why the large majority of ex-players don’t jump straight into a coaching environment. But with Byron Leftwich set to become head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars this offseason, it could result in more following this path.
