Carolina Panthers could have picked Rashawn Slater
With how bad the Carolina Panthers have been at left tackle since their 2015 Super Bowl run, missing on Rashawn Slater might be one of the toughest pills for fans and the front office to swallow.
Finding a star blindside protector is a difficult task in the NFL and the Los Angeles Chargers have found just that in Slater.
As a rookie, Slater played in every offensive snap in the 16 games he played, allowed just four sacks, and was graded as the 10th best offensive tackle in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.
Slater was named to the Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press. Meanwhile, the Panthers went through another year of having a revolving door at left tackle with Cam Erving stinking it up.
Rookie Brady Christensen had some bright moments when he received playing time. But if Carolina chose Slater, they might be set at the position for years to come.
To make matters worse, head coach Matt Rhule said recently that the team didn’t even view Slater as a tackle and more as a guard due to his arm length. Something that also prevented Christensen from getting more time on the field in his preferred position throughout the campaign.
