3 hypothetical trade offers for the Panthers to land Russell Wilson
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers trade offer No. 2
This offer comes down to positional importance and not much else. The longer things continue to struggle at quarterback, the longer it’s going to take for the Carolina Panthers to get back into legitimate Super Bowl contention.
It’s that simple, really.
Trading a first-round pick and a talented young player in Brian Burns might be seen as a risk. But if Russell Wilson gets back to anything like his old self, it might be a gamble that pays off in a big way providing the signal-caller signs off on a trade to the Carolina, however unlikely that could be.
Burns was selected to his first-ever Pro Bowl this season after gaining nine sacks opposite Haason Reddick on the edge. However, there are some who argue that the Florida State product didn’t quite meet some incredible expectations ahead of his third year in the league.
There is also the small matter of Burns’ contract extension to consider, which might not come around this offseason but if the player makes another leap forward in 2022, it’s going to cost the Panthers a substantial amount to keep him on the books.
Adding Burns to a potential trade that brings an elite quarterback shouldn’t be off the table. And in all honesty, he’s one of the last remaining valuable assets they have left.
