5 studs the Panthers should monitor from Senior Bowl practice Day 2
By Dean Jones
Dameon Pierce – RB (Florida)
Finding a better way to use or providing additional help to Christian McCaffrey is of critical importance for the Carolina Panthers this offseason. The running back endured another torrid campaign due to injuries in 2021, taking his tally to just 10 games over the last two years and something that simply cannot continue moving forward.
There remains some hope that Chuba Hubbard can develop into a serviceable back and Ameer Abdullah’s pass-catching prowess could secure a new deal before free agency. However, finding a player that can do the hard work between the tackles would also be welcome to keep McCaffrey out of harm’s way.
If the Panthers opt to go down this direction during the draft, then Dameon Pierce is a player that’s making some real noise at the 2022 Senior Bowl. His explosiveness during drills was outstanding according to reports, and the former Florida star also made some nice catches in the passing game despite conditions being far from ideal.
Pierce might be in range for Carolina in the mid-rounds. Something they might want to consider in pursuit of taking some heat off McCaffrey.
There is a long way to go before incoming college prospects hear their name called. But Pierce has gotten off to a good start and the upside is there for all to see.
